Here’s an interview with Emma Roberts and the other main characters of Scream 4, coming from Fandango.
You’ve probably seen a bunch of new TV spots for Scream 4. Here’s one of the best ones (in my opinion) in decent quality. I’ve updated the gallery with screencaptures right here. Also, don’t forget to catch Emma’s appearance on The Late Show with Jay Leno tonight!
Emma was spotted picking up some takeout in Hollywood yesterday, April 6th 2011. She wasn’t in the mood for paparazzi this time, which is totally understandable. Don’t forget to catch her appearance on Jay Leno tonight! She will be there promoting Scream 4. In the meantime you can read this small new interview coming from Buzzine:
Izumi Hasegawa: What was the draw of this for you? Were you a fan of this franchise, or were you a horror fan in general?Emma Roberts: I was a huge fan of the franchise. I’m a huge fan of Wes Craven, and I thought the fact that he was coming back to direct this one meant it was going to be good, and I loved the part. I read the script and it was an interesting role. I’d never done a horror movie, so why not?
IH: Did you have any say over your outcome in the film? ER: We didn’t have any say in how we die.
IH: Were you let in on who the killer was going to be?
ER: We had to keep everything a secret… You can’t trust actors.
IH: How was it to shoot in Michigan? What did you do on your downtime?ER: I feel like we all got cast and then thrown into it pretty quickly. We were in Michigan during the summer, and we all stayed near each other, so we would get together and go to dinner, and go out and hang out. It was really fun. It was a fun summer. Arbor is really fun. We had a really good time there.
IH: Your characters in the movie were horror movie geeks. Are you geeks in any way in real life?
ER: I like to read. Does that make me a nerd?
HP: You are a nerd! She is a full-on nerd. You read a book in like an hour. She is a nerd.
IH: Were you intimidated at all to be the new guys on this successful franchise?
ER: I don’t think I was intimidated coming into it, but I was definitely excited. I didn’t know what to expect, so I relinquished expectations and just went into it thinking, “I hope I have fun, I hope everyone’s cool, and I hope we make a good movie.” For the most part, I think that’s what happened, so I’m really happy.
IH: Emma, you have a famous relative in the movie, being the cousin of Sidney Prescott, and you have a famous relative in real life, being the niece of Julia Roberts. Do you feel any pressure with that kind of spotlight on you?ER: No, I don’t. I don’t really think of it like pressure at all. I’m just doing what I love to do and I’m doing my own thing. I don’t really compare it to what my aunt does, but I do admire her and I love all her movies.
Coming from The Shorthorn:
The Shorthorn: This film is very different from your last film, a quirky comedy. Are you a fan of horror films?
Emma Roberts: I’m terrified of horror films, but I’m a really big fan. I wanted to work with Wes Craven, and I thought, ‘why not?’ It’s a once in a lifetime chance to work on a Scream movie.TS: What drew you to this role?
E.R.: For me, I just thought it would be really amazing to get to work with Wes Craven, and Neve Campbell, and David Arquette and Courteney Cox. Since they did the first three, I figured it would be really amazing. And I read the script and it sounded really fun. Lots of blood, lots of death.TS: This is the second film where you’ve been part of an ensemble cast. How would you compare your experiences working with such impressive casts?
E.R.: They were both really fun. You never knew who you would see at work. For Scream, it was really cool. I was definitely intimidated to work with Courteney, and David and Neve, but they were really fun to work with.TS: Talking to fans of the movies, they’re interested in the gory details. What was your favorite way that someone got killed?
E.R.: I wish I could tell you. I can’t tell you how people get killed in this one because there’s some really good ones you would never think people would get killed that way. There was a lot of blood. I actually tasted some of it because it smelled like maple syrup, but it doesn’t taste very good. And it’s really sticky.TS: You’ve come a long way from Unfabulous. How is the acting process different for you now?
E.R.: It’s still really fun for me. It’s definitely different just as far as the roles I’ve been going up for. When I was younger, I used to audition a lot. Now I kind of go to a lot of meetings, which is good because it’s easier for people to get to know you better one on one.TS: What’s your favorite scary movie?
E.R.: Probably The Ring, only because it really traumatized me for a while after I saw it.TS: Your character is Sidney’s cousin in the film. Would you consider yourself the next-generation Sidney?
E.R.: I know when I auditioned for Scream I had really short blonde hair. When I got the part, Wes Craven called and said we want you to look more like Neve with dark, dark, dark hair. So I thought, ‘Oh, I’m going to be reminiscent of Sidney Prescott.’ It was fun working with Neve and getting to have that feeling she had in the first one.TS.: What are some of the new horror conventions that test your character’s knowledge in the film?
E.R: One of them is quite shocking, which is virgins can die now. You’re no longer safe if you’re a virgin. That was a funny one that a couple of the boys in the movie get to talk about.TS: Given the amount of female star power that has starred in this franchise, how nervous were you about joining the tradition of being a Scream queen?
E.R.: I was more excited than anything else. When I auditioned, I didn’t think I was going to get the part at all. I think the excitement overshadowed my doubt.

Coming from E! Online:
In Scream 4, the young starlet plays a popular high school girl who has just broken up with her Big Man on Campus boyfriend, Trevor Sheldon (Nico Tortorella). And you better believe she witnessed a lot of bloody murders while making the movie, out April 15.”It’s funny but then kind of scary,” Roberts told me for today’s installment of Scream 4: New Generation Week, E! Online’s exclusive daily chats with the horror franchise’s fresh-faced stars. “When you’re in it, it gets kind of freaky.
“But then you can’t help but laugh when people have cuts all over them and they’re covered in blood, or have just had a death scene but they’re eating lunch with you,” she said. ”It’s just so weird.”
Roberts was told she had the role a couple of hours after auditioning for director Wes Craven via Skype. But what about her character’s name, Jill Roberts? Kinda creepy, no?
“I said, ‘What’s the deal with that?’” she said. “Jill Roberts? It also sort of sounds like Julia Roberts! But Wes said that was going to be the name always from years and years ago.”
Sounds like she and the Ghost Face killer were destined to be together.
